Munich (Day 2)- Meeting the Locals

We woke up from the best night sleep and ate our first German breakfast, consisted mostly of lots of Bavarian-style bread and slices of ham and cheese and all different kinds of spreads from fruit to cream style cheeses – DELICIOUS!

Headed out the hotel with a gorgeous day full of sunshine and 68 degree weather ahead, we left headed towards Gabriel’s previous work at the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry where we met his previous boss Dr. Theo Rein. Theo showed us around the institute and we walked through an amazing little hidden park.

Theo is Bavarian born and raised so he could tell you everything from history of the buildings to how the city has evolved since WWII. He is a man of great knowledge and for him to take the time out of his day to give us a private tour of the Schwabing area was the perfect way to start the day.

Headed to Lunch at Cafe Alt Schwabing to meet some of Gabriel’s old colleagues, which was a really great time. I apologize I didn’t take any pictures of the salads everyone had, didn’t find it necessary haha. We then left and walked to an amazing little ice cream shop around the corner where Gabriel and I shared a super rich chocolate scoop along with a scoop of amazing pistachio (my favorite).IMG-20180615-WA0046IMG-20180615-WA0045IMG-20180615-WA0034IMG-20180615-WA0043

Now to my favorite part of the day was the English Garden located close to the Museum district. I don’t know if anyone would ever say there is surfing in Germany, but I witnessed this with my own eyes.

The English Garden is the 2nd largest Urban park after Central Park in New York. One of my favorite spots by far of the trip. Inside the park we visited the Chinese tower Biergarten and had two great Hofbrauhaus beers. We then rented bikes an road out of the park and walked along the Isar River to then meet the amzing couple Andres and Maria for some beer and dinner. IMG-20180615-WA0018IMG-20180615-WA0037IMG-20180615-WA005620180614_16460820180614_17500720180614_17495020180614_17495620180614_16553320180614_203502 We later walked around Munich to end up at Augustiner brewery for a night beer before headed back to the hotel.
